Franklin D Roosevelt Graded School

Do you know something about this building?

One would expect a building such as this one to have beautiful, elaborate and detailed railings. It seems the renovations may have eliminated these railings, which are such an integral part of art deco in Puerto Rico.

The school has been subject to rampant vandalism. I believe since Arecibo’s urban population has been decreasing, the school has ignored all the investment they put a decade ago into making it a better school and have kept students in larger complexes of public education.

This school could easily follow examples of other seemingly more important educational structures in urban centers struck with the dilemma of dwindling student populations and a focus on conserving architectural beauty like Santurce’s Central High School by becoming an institute of art.
